Remove GPS spikes

A single bad fix can fling a point kilometres away and back, adding fake distance. Remove spikes finds those out-and-back jumps and drops them, at Low, Medium or High sensitivity — without touching genuine sharp turns like switchbacks.

Fix the rest by hand

Drag a point back onto the trail, delete a stray, or smooth a jittery stretch with Simplify. The distance and pace update live so you can see the track return to normal.

How to fix gps errors and clean a track

  1. Open your GPX file.
  2. Click Remove spikes (raise the sensitivity if some remain).
  3. Drag or delete any leftover bad points.
  4. Download the cleaned GPX.

FAQ

Will it remove real sharp turns?

No. Spike removal ignores normal-spacing corners and only drops points that jump far out and snap straight back, so switchbacks and hairpins are kept.

My distance is wrong — can this fix it?

Usually yes. Spikes are the most common cause of inflated distance; removing them recomputes the real distance from the cleaned track.
